Surgery Successful

It is nice to have found access to a computer in the ward. Ely's carotid endarterectomy happened yesterday. The operation took some 4 hours, from 7 a.m., and it was 2:30 when I got to see him in the Recovery room. He is fine, thank God, and to all who have prayed for him. We are hoping that he will be released today--am still waiting for the word. I, too, have an appointment at Bethesda Naval Medical Center about three miles down the road, off I-495, so we'll stay one more night here in Silver Springs; check out of the hotel before my three o'clock appointment tomorrow.

Superstitions

Every time someone leaves the house, and we're still at the dinner table, I automatically turn my plate around. Force of habit. It's a Filipino superstition, that it is bad luck to leave the house at meal time; so to counteract that, I turn my dinner plate around to bring the one who departs good luck instead. Then, for good measure, I turn all the rest of the dinnerware around, too. I get these stares from my family. Well, you never know...
